Volume 1 Issue 11 February 2008

Remember your loved

one this month.

The stories vary about the who, what, where and when of Valentine’s Day. Here is one version you might enjoy:

Valentine's Day History

Some experts state that it originated from St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He died on February 14, 269 A.D. Legend also says that St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer's daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it, "From Your Valentine." Other aspects of the story say that Saint Valentine served as a priest at the temple during the reign of Emperor Claudius. Claudius then had Valentine jailed for defying him. In 496 A.D. Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honor St. Valentine.

RAM CONFERENCE REPORT

What a rewarding experience for all involved! We had seven different men of God speaking into the lives of 250 pastors and leaders. These represented 48 different churches from nine states. Focus points included:  The priority of God and family before the job; not putting your joy in the hands of others; recognizing that change has to start with me; not getting caught up in the spirit of excuse; avoiding the trap of measuring success by numbers; preparing for greatness and the necessity of having a pure heart.

Victory Life Durant

Our small business ministry will meet the 4th Tuesday evening of each month, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel (Durant).   Each month, there will be a different speaker presenting information that small businesses need to grow their business (speakers from the workers comp office, insurance companies, IT people, bankers, REI, etc.).   There will be a panel of business people, along with the speaker, to answer questions and guide our small business owners.  The focus is the Kingdom, and running business in a kingdom manner.

Everyone is invited, though it is intended for new and existing business people.   It is open to other churches and the community.   Our kickoff meeting, explaining the strategy for this ministry was Tuesday, January 29th. For more details, contact Tim MacEntire at 580/931-8000 or email to: tim.macentire@dsheriff.org.

Jeremiah 29:11 speaks over our children that God knows the plans He has for them and it speaks of His desire to bring them to a prosperous future.  Our goal is for children to know that the same God who created the universe created them with a specific purpose in mind...they are no accident!  The world speaks loudly to our children.  We in children's ministry counter the lies with truth and help children to understand the tools they need to overcome the enemy and his ways.

29:Eleven Kids Ministry offers many opportunities for children to learn about and grow in their relationship with God.  Numerous methods are used to bring the truths in God's Word to life - multimedia presentations, puppets, dance, live skits and dramas.  The teachings of the house, spoken from Pastor Duane Sheriff’ heart, are brought  down to the child's level and taught in such a way that children are able to see how it applies to their lives today.

Researchers say...

· Only 4% of this current generation will be Bible believing Christians.

· Between the ages of 5-12 lifelong habits, values, and beliefs are formed that are carried to the grave!

· 85% of all Christians become saved before reaching age 13.

Every day we work to combat the plans that the enemy has against our children. We work to stay ahead of trends that will lure them away and destroy them, if left unchecked. We want to create church experiences that will rival what the world tries to give them. We pray that the Holy Spirit grabs their hearts and draws them into relationship with the Lord Jesus through lifting Him up. But our skills and gifts are limited. New soldiers to help in this battle are needed to bring great ideas and refreshed methods. By volunteering in this department you will have an opportunity to raise your mighty sword and make a lasting impact for the Kingdom of God on these young lives—an impact that will last a lifetime.
